16 October 2007 ABTA: Travellers becoming "more adventurous"
Holidaymakers who book on to package deals are becoming increasingly adventurous, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).
Despite ATOL statistics published in June showing a decline in the number of people travelling on ATOL-protected package holidays, the value of package holidays is reportedly on the rise.
ABTA reports that this is because holidaymakers are increasingly travelling further afield opting away from traditional European destinations and to long-haul package destinations.
"The traditional package holiday around the Mediterranean is definitely in decline. But what is actually growing is the number of people opting for new package tours to long-haul destinations," commented ABTA spokesperson Sean Tipton.
He added that this "adventurous" sector is growing at a fast rate.
ABTA recently reported that people were opting for more short breaks to long-haul destinations.
