13 February 2007 ABTA backs OFT on fair pricing
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has expressed its support for the campaign by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to push for more accurate headline pricing of holidays.
ABTA notes that its own code of conduct backs transparent pricing, while some airlines and non-ABTA members have not necessarily included all relevant costs in their headline prices.
Following an agreement with the OFT, ABTA members will, over the next three months, introduce the inclusion of all non-optional costs to prices quoted to travellers.
Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA, said: "We are very supportive of the OFT's move today, as it should lead to a level playing field within the travel industry."
He added that the organisation would take the necessary measures to ensure compliance from its members with these new directives, while stating that the key to the success of these plans is the observing of these regulations by airlines.
The OFT reported that fuel supplements of up to £65 per person could be added to the price of air travel by some operators.
