24 October 2007 Adrenaline fuelled Brits head for slopes
More than three million Britons look set to head for the slopes this winter, many of whom are looking to engage in more "high-adrenaline" sports, it has been claimed.
According to esure.com, many Brits no longer head to the mountains simply to partake in skiing and snowboarding activities.
Research from esure reveals that 27 per cent of UK snow sports holidaymakers would partake in more "extreme" sports - for instance off-piste snowboarding, tobogganing and ice-lake diving.
The head of travel insurance at esure, Jacky Brown, added that ice-lake diving and indeed heli-skiing were becoming more popular.
"Any winter sports holiday comes with a certain element of risk. Whether on a nursery slope or a black run, accidents do happen," she warned however.
Meanwhile, Churchhill advised snow fans to ski their favourite Swiss and Austrian resorts while they still can - predicting that by 2050 snow in the Swiss Alps will be reduced by 75 per cent.
