20 May 2006 Adventuresome Britons visit film locations
When taking out their holiday insurance and planning their travels, Britons could be influenced by the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
New research perfomed by Halifax has found that 27 per cent of holidaying Britons have chosen their destinations after seeing them in a movie or reading about them in a book.
Major cinematic releases like the Da Vinci Code are the most likely to sway travellers to going to a certain location.
Locations that feature prominently in the movie are both Lincoln cathedral and Rosslyn Chapel, in the small town of Roslin in Scotland.
Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter at Halifax commented: "It's fascinating to see how a book or a film can have such a huge impact on the places we want to visit. A small town like Roslin suddenly becomes a must see place for hundreds of thousands of people."
Whether it is tour operators, the travel industry as a whole has become aware of the phenomenon of this group of travellers dubbed the 'jetset'.
