19 November 2007 Advice for passengers packing presents
Holidaymakers jetting away on holiday or travelling overseas to visit friends and relatives this Christmas have been issued with advice on transporting gifts.
According to a spokesperson for Stansted Airport, there are a number of security issues in regards to the transportation of presents in hand luggage that must be observed when passing through airport security channels.
He reported that presents taken on board planes in hand luggage should not be gift wrapped, in case security personnel wish to examine them.
"Key points to note for passengers flying over Christmas include; if passengers decide to carry fragile Christmas presents in their hand luggage, they must be unwrapped for any security inspection that may be required," the airport representative commented.
He added that Christmas crackers are not permitted in hand luggage or checked-in baggage.
Travelmole recently published research from Cooperative Travel Agent which revealed that an additional 11 per cent of Britons are expected to travel overseas this Christmas.
