29 November 2007 'Affluent' over-50s set sights on world travel
Britons aged over 50 now have more time and money to spend on global travel than the younger generation, it has been reported.
According to research from Alliance & Leicester, they have more free time in which to take holidays following retirement while those who have children may have left home meaning more money and time are free for use on holidays.
Other recent research from the bank revealed that 54 per cent of over-50s wish to travel more regularly to long-haul destinations.
"The over-50s tend to have a bit more time, because they are either retiring from their job or their children are flying the nest, or they have more money to use to actually go further afield," commented Steve Gracey, spokesperson for Alliance & Leicester.
A study from Saga revealed that a third of the over-50s looked for adventure when booking a holiday, while Alliance & Leicester reports that nine per cent of this age group would like to go off-roading while on their travels.
