27 September 2006 Airline to provide in-flight text news
Businessmen, sports and showbiz fans and others heading abroad on holiday can now take advantage of a text in-flight news service.
Virgin Atlantic has announced the joint project with broadcaster Sky News to provide news content, including breaking news, sports news, business news, celebrity gossip and one eye on the clouds - weather information.
The company will introduce the service on its aircraft that have the in-flight V:Port entertainment system installed.
Dave Tharp, senior manager, development & logistics, onboard media for Virgin Atlantic said: "News provision has developed so much over the years, with people now able to access up-to-the-minute information while they are travelling."
Sky News was the first 24-hour television news channel in Europe, launched by Sky Television, now British Sky Broadcasting, in 1989.
Richard Branson recently announced that all the profit from Virgin trains and airplanes over the next decade would be donated to fight global warming.
