05 September 2006 Airlines announce passenger increase
A number of airlines have reported a rise in passengers in the last month.
Ryanair, Monarch and Continental Airlines have all reported a rise in numbers on last years figures for August, with Ryanair carrying a record four million passengers.
Monarch passenger numbers increased by 359,209 or 18.3 per cent over the same time last year.
A statement from Monarch noted that this increase meant the airline had "carried 10,000 more passengers in one month than ever before," with internet sales rising to 85 per cent of all bookings.
Reports of increased passenger numbers come soon after Ryanair announced that it had made £50 million in ancillary revenues ? money from sources other than ticket sales - in three months, a rise of £13 million on the previous year.
Among the sources for these revenues is car hire, hotels, and in-flight entertainment.
