18 December 2006 Airport 'most expensive place' for travel money
Travellers leaving the purchase of foreign currency to the last minute at the airport could end up spending the most for their holiday money, it has been reported.
Financial services comparison website moneysupermarket.com comments that holidaymakers can save over £30 when purchasing 1,000 euro of currency from different providers.
Rob Kenley, head of travel money for the firm, said: "When going on holiday, travel money is often the last thing people think about, leaving it right until the last minute and getting it just right before they board the plane."
He added that "big savings" could be made by looking around and purchasing holiday money in advance of travel.
Earlier this year, Sainsbury's Bank reported that 13 per cent of its insurance claims related to lost baggage, money and documentation, with a further 11 per cent claims were as a result of their theft.
