10 October 2007 Algarve sand sculptures still standing
This week marks the final week of the year for the exhibition of the Fiesa 2007: International Sand Sculpture Festival in Pera.
Following four months of display on the sands of Pera, the event will come to a close and the thousands of tonnes of sand will be dispersed back into the sea.
This year's theme was the Wonders of the World and roughly 30,000 tonnes of sand was used to create the many sculptures which included a display of 20th century jazz in France.
According to Algarve Beach Life the panorama of the exhibits is "breath taking" and for those who failed to catch the event, the sans sculpture festival takes place annually for a four-month period.
Other exhibits included the Egyptian pyramids, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Collossus of Rhodes, the Olympian statue of Zeus, Artemis's Temple at Ephesus, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and the Lighthouse at Alexandria.
