05 July 2006 An autumnal treat in Singapore
Travellers taking a trip to Singapore this October are in for a treat, as the traditional Chinese harvest festival is set to take place throughout the month.
Also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival or the Lantern Festival, the main event of the autumn calendar is the Mooncake Festival, which this year takes place on October 6th.
Visitors can enjoy the spectacle of the city's China Town transformed for the lunar festivities with both traditional and contemporary paper lanterns and join the crowds of people as they take green tea and mooncakes under the full harvest moon.
The festivities revolve around the eating of the traditional moon inspired pastries, which are historically stuffed with lotus paste and decorated with intricate patterns.
Holidaymakers can enjoy these, along with other delicacies such as salted eggs, piglet biscuits and pomelo, a large, sweet and auspicious citrus fruit, throughout the autumn festivities.
