20 March 2008 Anniversary celebrations for Australian icon
Celebrations were held on the Sydney Harbour Bridge this week to mark the 76th birthday of the iconic monument which for many locals and visitors embodies the essence of Australia.
On Wednesday (March 19th 2008) the occasion was commemorated with a birthday bridge climb by mother and daughter Kerri-Anne and Kimberley Regent.
The Sydney Harbour BridgeClimb is now a popular activity for those on holidays in the emerging destination.
"Climbing the Bridge today is something that my daughter and I have been planning for months. I am turning 40 today and my daughter turns 12. This is something that we will always remember," commented Ms Regent.
Sydney Harbour Bridge is affectionately nicknamed the coathanger and it opened on March 19th 1932 to enable Sydney residents to cross from the north shore directly into the heart of the city.
Holidaymakers can now experience the emerging destination by taking a memorable BridgeClimb at dawn, day, twilight and night.
