24 May 2006 Annual travel insurance gives 'flexibility'
Product research company Defaqto says that purchasing annual travel insurance is flexible and that by shopping around, customers could save "a lot of money".
It said that for frequent flyers who often travel at short notices, annual policies can save customers the hassle of having to take out separate insurance policies for each trip.
Brian Brown, associate director at Defaqto, said: "Annual cover is a good way of giving you flexibility to fly at short notice but not forget the insurance."
Mr Brown added that there are several reasons why people might not take out financial protection. He remarked: "A lot of people just don't think of it. Some people are even reluctant to spend eight pounds, that's three drinks on holiday. With travel brochures you get it into your head that it costs £30 for cover."
Other reasons included people with medical conditions finding it hard to get covered, or not wanting to declare an illness, even though the potential cost of an air ambulance, for instance, can run into tens of thousands of pounds.
Mr Brown said that no-one should leave the UK without travel cover.
