09 December 2006 Artists and writers 'flocking to Asheville'
Travellers with an interest in literature and the arts are heading to Asheville in North Carolina to enjoy a vibrant scene and famous tourist attractions, it has been reported.
Frommer's Travel Guide recently listed Asheville as the fifth top travel destination in the world and it is claimed that many holidaymakers are following the footsteps of celebrities to enjoy the town.
"Asheville has always welcomed esteemed visitors and residents. The late authors F Scott Fitzgerald and Thomas Wolfe ? resided here. Other famous Ashveillians include screen star Andie McDowell and Night Court veteran Harry Anderson," reports AshevilleNC.com.
A survey by Saga Travel earlier this year revealed that, contrary to the belief of some, the majority of Britons try to learn local languages and absorb foreign culture when abroad.
The questionnaire found that 87 per cent of Britons have attempted to experience local culture when on holiday overseas.
