04 March 2008 Australia's BridgeClimb wins gong
BridgeClimb Sydney has been named best major tourist attraction at the 2007 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
The Sydney-based venture described the gong as a recognition of Sydney Harbour Bridge as a "hallmark destination in its own right".
Tourists heading to Sydney can climb to the top of its landmark Harbour Bridge where they then can enjoy vistas of Darling Harbour and Sydney Opera House.
"Winning this award will inspire the company to move forward in its tenth anniversary year with even greater commitment to ensuring that every Climber has the experience of a lifetime on Australia's icon," commented BridgeClimb's managing director Todd Coates.
BridgeClimb has attracted more than two million bridge climbers since its opening in 1998.
Australia is an emerging holiday destination, in particular for gap-year travellers. Other tourist sites in the country include the Australia Zoo, the National Museum of Australia, Port Arthur Historic Site, Bunbury Dolphin Discovery, Alice Springs Desert Park and the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.
