15 November 2007 Austrian ski resorts opening early
Ski resorts across Austria have started to open much earlier than planned this season because of deep snowfalls and plummeting temperatures.
Winter openings in some resorts have been moved forward by up to two weeks, offering ski enthusiasts some great last minute deals and more than one metre of snow in certain areas.
The Austrian National Tourist Office has welcomed November snowfalls of more than one metre right down to the valley stations and announced that resorts opening this week include Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Mayrhofen and Zell am See, with Schladming-Dachstein, Tirol and Kitzbuehel already welcoming skiers.
Some of the largest snowfalls in more than 30 years have been witnessed in Austria, with all the country's five glacial ski resorts now open and forecasts continuing to signal more snow.
Meanwhile, other European ski destinations are also witnessing early winter snowfalls and low temperatures, including Verbier in Switzerland, according to the Ski Club of Great Britain.
