17 December 2007 "Authentic" element of travel 'is important'
The "authentic" portion of travel is more important than the "responsible" side, it has been claimed.
According to responsibletravel.com, while holidaymakers are more aware of the climate change issues and the positive and negative impacts of tourism on local communities, people also want to experience an "authentic" holiday.
This means discovering the culture at the heart of a community, according to a spokesperson for the holiday provider.
"More important than the responsible element is the authentic part of travel. People want to really experience a place, to try local foods and meet local people and learn about the real culture at the heart of a community and destination," she commented.
Friends of the Earth reports that air travel is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases, which can lead to climate change.
