25 January 2007 BA announces flying schedule around strike
British Airways (BA) has announced that it will not operate passenger flights out of London's Heathrow airport next week, from 00:01 GMT on January 30th to 23:59 GMT on January 31st.
Furthermore, due to strike action from the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G), all European and domestic flights to and from Gatwick airport will also be cancelled during this time
Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA, said: "We are deeply sorry that our customers are the innocent victims of this unnecessary strike by the T&G"
He added that over 15,000 customers had contacted the firm expressing concerns regarding business trips and holidays due to commence next week and added that the early cancellation would allow the company to form contingency plans.
BA has advised customers due to travel from Heathrow or Gatwick to not travel to these airports.
In 2004, American Express noted that its policy would cover travellers against delays occurring as a result of industrial action only if travel arrangements had been made prior to announcements of a strike.
