12 August 2005 BA flights affected by catering dispute
Four British Airways flights have been cancelled at Heathrow airport, after a dispute between a catering company and its staff.
Some 800 staff at Gate Gourmet staged an unofficial strike over plans of the company to restructure, and were sacked as a consequence.
Despite some cancellations, about 550 BA flights still left Heathrow, but with a very limited refreshments offering that only included water, tea and coffee.
As many as 100,000 travellers are believed to have been affected by the industrial action, and BA has said that it will deal with compensation claims on a case by case basis, although many have been offered food bags and vouchers.
The sacked workers continued their stand by staging more protests outside the airport.
British Airways has also revealed that check-in for flights at Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 have been suspended, with the threat of more flight cancellations still a possibility.
