10 March 2008 BA interested in bmi takeover
British Airways remains interested in potentially purchasing its rival bmi.
BA chief executive Willie Walsh has suggested the airline remains "very interested" in bmi's future.
He said: "Anything that gives us the option to pursue further growth at Heathrow is interesting."
It is expected that bmi will be sold at some point this year and Mr Walsh has made it clear that BA is set to make a purchase move, giving it access to yet more traditional and emerging destinations.
He said the airline will need to be prepared to seize such an opportunity "to move into the gaps created by the failure of our competitors".
Mr Walsh also suggested BA is interested in opportunities further afield, suggesting it is keeping a close eye on Spanish carrier Iberia.
At its yearly investor day last week, BA predicted revenue increases of up to 4.5 per cent during 2008, taking its profits to more than £9.1 billion.
Keith Williams, BA chief financial officer, said the outlook was in line with the current economic slowdown, higher fuel prices and the costs of the transition to Heathrow's fifth terminal.
