A list of the top-ten best autumn ski resorts for snow has been compiled by a UK newspaper.
The Guardian reports that heading up the list is Val Thorens in France - the highest ski resort in Europe.
Val Thorens' Peclet glacier is a key? reason for this according to the publication, which notes that it has been protected from the melting-effects of the summer sun by means of a prophylactic covering. The ski resort also boasts two peaks at a high altitude of above 3,000 metres.
Other French resorts making the top ten are the classic mountaineering region of Chamonix - home to the highest peak in the Alps, Mont Blanc - while Tignes also makes number four on the list.
Despite recent global warming warnings, a number of European , including those in Switzerland, Austria and Italy, make the list, with only numbers nine and ten going to resorts in Canada.
It was recently announced that Tignes will open its glacier for skiing on the last weekend of September.
