19 October 2007 'Better quality of life in the Med'
A holiday to Italy or Spain could be beneficial to travellers' health - if they pick up some lifestyle tips from the locals.
Typically Spanish reports that research from the Academy of Healthy Ageing reveals that Italians have the highest life expectancy in Europe at 71 years for men and 76 years for women.
Those on holidays in Italy may already be aware of the association in popular culture and the media of olive oil and the Italian diet with longevity.
Meanwhile, it is not simply the life expectancy that increases in Italy, as the publication reveals that according to the report "in the Mediterranean countries not only do people live longer, they enjoy a better quality of life than others in the EU".
Spain was shown by the study to be second to Italy in terms of quality and duration of life.
Life expectancy for those residing in Spain was reported at 70 years for men and 75.3 years for women.
A Post Office study recently showed Spain to be a popular half-term holiday destination according to U.TV.
