07 July 2005 Book travel insurance before your Singapore sling
After the 2012 Olympics decision was announced in Singapore on Wednesday, all of the TV and radio coverage could prompt a number of travellers to consider this exotic South East Asian country as a holiday destination.
Although Singapore offers a number of modern, high-class luxuries, travellers should make sure they have adequate travel cover before settling down to a Singapore Sling at the landmark Raffles Hotel.
Founded by Sir Stamford Raffles, Singapore offers everything from colonial history to Chinese, Indian and Malay traditions.
There's a Chinatown packed full of restaurants and colourful Chinese temples, while Little India is exactly as its name suggests: its streets are lined with sari shops, Indian eateries and jewellery boutiques.
Meanwhile, Arab Street is where the Muslim influence makes its presence felt and although the Sultan Mosque is the main landmark in this area, the Malabar Muslim Jama-ath Mosque is also well worth a visit.
Orchard Road is where to go for luxury boutiques, nightlife and some of Singapore's top hotels while Sentosa Island is where most tourists flock for its beaches, sports facilities and museums.
