19 November 2007 "Boom" in luxury travel
There has been a "boom" in the field of luxury travel of late, it has been claimed.
According to Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) the travel agency industry has gone through many alterations during the last ten years meaning that a wider choice of destinations has been opened up to travellers.
Far-flung destinations such as Costa Rica and South America are becoming increasingly popular and accessible, she added.
"People have specialised in certain destinations and also many of them have gone up-market as well. There is a real boom at the moment for luxury travel," Ms Tuke continued.
Meanwhile, holidaymakers heading to destinations like South America are increasingly doing so for longer time periods, Ms Tuke noted, such as two or three weeks.
Abta represents more than 6,000 travel agencies in the British Isles.
