29 October 2005 Border relations between India and China improve
Improved relations between the Indian and Chinese troops provide good news for those planning a trip to the remote areas surrounding the border between India, Tibet and China.
The war between India and China was followed by 40 years of tension, but it seems as though that is about to change.
A BBC report this week found that the tense relations between the troops have improved dramatically in the past few years.
For those planning on going to exotic and more off-the-beaten-track-places, the fear of internal and border disputes plays an important role in the decision process.
Indian colonel Brijender Singh told the BBC reporter that: "We now have in place a system of regular border meetings to exchange notes.
"It is working. There's absolute peace on this frontier."
Testament to the improvement in relations, the Indians at the border now attend the celebrations at China's border posts for Chinese national day celebrations.
Although relations are not totally amiable just yet, the scaling down of border defence regiments and the growing geniality between the two countries' troops points towards encouraging news for those planning on visiting the area.
