17 January 2007 Bournemouth airport reports busiest ever year
Bournemouth International Airport has announced that 2006 was its busiest year on record, with a 15.6 per cent increase in passenger numbers over 2005 to 955,160 during the last 12 months.
The airport has attributed this rise in passengers, to the addition of three new routes from budget airline Ryanair, which now flies holidaymakers from Bournemouth to Madrid, Pisa and Shannon.
Peter Duffy, managing director of the airport, said: "We are delighted with the passenger figures for 2006 and I believe they reflect the level of commitment that the airport has to providing excellent choice and value for the region's leisure and business travellers."
He added that Bournemouth International Airport was commited to keeping its reputation as a "friendly" airport for passengers.
In December, the airport announced that the Manchester Airport Group, its owner, would invest £32 million in redeveloping the airport over the next four to five years.
