27 September 2007 Brazil 'has spent over $670m promoting tourism'
In a bid to draw visitors to the country, the government of Brazil has invested more than $670 million (£331 million) in promoting tourism, it has been reported.
According to Property Frontiers, tourism grew by 4.5 per cent.in Brazil between 2005 and 2006 and the government intends to expand on this growth by building a new airport in Natal.
Furthermore, the airport is intended to be the world's fourth largest, with direct flights from Europe and Miami to the airport working to capitalise the growth-trend in tourism to the region.
"In the Natal region, the construction of the fourth largest airport in the world is underway and should bring in five million travellers a year," commented a spokesperson for Property Frontiers.
She added that European tourism levels from Portugal, Spain, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the UK are growing rapidly in Natal.
Natal is also known as the "City of the Sun".
