12 November 2007 British tourists are 'model for the world'
British holidaymakers are to play a vital role in the development of the global travel industry, it has been suggested.
A report released by Travel Market indicates that Britons are leading the way in terms of searching for the best deals on holidays and travelling to new locations, reports Travel Weekly.
Dr Auliana Poon, managing director for Tourism Intelligence, said: "The British market has a maturity and resilience not seen anywhere else."
"British people want to travel and see holidays as vital. It is important tourist boards and hoteliers look at Britain as a model for the future," she added.
Meanwhile, the range of departure points and travel products available within Britain is reported as being an indicative sign of increasing competitiveness within the tourism industry.
Dr Poon also reported that as do-it-yourself travel is being led by Britons, understanding such a market is vital in recognising how the global sector will develop in the future.
Earlier this month, Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, claimed that Spain is set to be the most popular destination for British tourists.
