22 August 2007 Britons 'avoid hassle' with domestic breaks
Despite reports that a holiday abroad can be more cost-effective than a domestic break, it has been claimed that many Britons prefer to spend their holidays in the UK to avoid the "hassle" of travelling overseas.
While the National Consumer Council recently reported that cheap flights and accommodation can make a trip to the continent cheaper than a domestic holiday, the British Holiday and Home Parks Association claims that a holiday back in the UK can afford more relaxation.
Jon Boston, a spokesperson for the association, said: "People want a more relaxing break and they're more likely to get that in this country than on a low-cost jaunt overseas."
He added that travellers would prefer to have a domestic break than end up inconvenienced by missing baggage and lengthy security queues at British airports.
In July 2007, Direct Line advised holidaymakers in the UK to not be lulled into a false sense of security by their surroundings and make sure they still purchase adequate travel insurance for their trip.
