17 May 2007 Britons 'ditching air travel for green holidays'
British holidaymakers are increasingly forgoing air travel and instead opting for more environmentally friendly means of transport abroad, it has been claimed.
AA reports that a fifth of British holidaymakers will choose to drive to their destination rather than fly, with 11 per cent planning a driving holiday in Europe and 20 per cent opting for a domestic trip in their car.
The company adds that less than half of Britons will continue as they have done in the past in their approach to taking short flights to Europe, while three per cent have cancelled their holiday plans altogether as a result of environmental concerns.
Lloyd East, a director of the firm, said: "It is encouraging news that Britons are following Prince Charles' example and thinking twice before taking short haul flights which can have significant impacts on the environment."
In December 2005, the SnowFuture Report from Churchill warned that global warming could result in a major decline in snow at traditional skiing venues by 2050.
