11 February 2008 Britons set sights on Hong Kong
Last year saw an "exceptional" number of Britons head to Hong Kong, according to new figures.
Travel Mole reports that some 600,000 visitors headed to the former crown colony last year, with this figure representing a 16 per cent increase from that of 2006.
However, the Hong Kong Tourist Board (HKTB) is aiming to capitalise on this popularity and build its presence in the cruise sector both as a hub and port of call for those on fly-cruise getaways.
HKTB executive director Anthony Lau said Asia was "the next big thing" for cruises across the globe and Hong Kong could be ideal as it is both exciting and convenient.
Both English and Chinese is spoken in the special administrative region, as it was originally a colony of the UK until the transfer of its sovereignty in 1997 to the People's Republic of China.
It does not have an official capital, but the largest district - Sha Tin - includes tourist attractions such as Snoopy's World, the Sha Tin racecourse and the Che Kung Miu temple.
