14 March 2008 Britons 'spending the euros in traditional destinations'
UK holidaymakers have spent a record amount of euros in traditional destinations in Europe of late, it has been revealed.
Marks & Spencer Money reports that since the launch of the euro in 2002, in the region of £18 billion worth of the currency has been parted with by Britons enjoying holidays in traditional destinations.
Thanks to an early Easter bank holiday, M&S Money anticipates that this growing trend of cash splashing in traditional destinations in Europe will continue in 2008.
M&S Travel Money manager Fraser Millar noted: "The euro is our favourite form of holiday cash, accounting for 58 per cent of all currency sales in the UK. With the recent wintry weather at home ... 2008 could be another record year for the euro."
Meanwhile, moneysupermarket.com recently offered tips to holidaymakers on how best they could avoid being charged for transactions and foreign exchange fees when overseas.
