29 March 2007 Britons 'using technology' to stay in touch abroad
Increasing numbers of Britons are using modern technology including personal digital assistants and mobile phones to stay in touch with both loved ones and the office while away on holiday, rather than getting away from it all, it has been reported.
Recently published research from swiftcover.com reveals that 40 per cent of Britons will take a mobile phone or wireless handheld device abroad, while 47 per cent admit to spending at least an hour a week on their mobile when away.
Craig Staniland, director of underwriting at the firm, said: "It seems we can't face missing out on the latest office or social gossip, probably fuelled by the advent of smarter and slicker technology."
He added that Britons heading abroad often travel with electronic equipment worth hundreds of pounds.
Last year, research company Defaqto urged holidaymakers to place expensive possessions in a secure suitcase when flying and to check the details of their travel insurance policy to ensure they are adequately covered.
