25 May 2007 Britons 'want more leisure time'
Over two-thirds of Britons are unhappy with the amount of leisure time they have, with a majority claiming they would pay their employer for an extra hour off work each day.
The Leisure Index from Fool.co.uk reveals that 51 per cent of Britons would pay their boss £5 a day - equal to £1,280 a year - to shave an hour from each working day.
However, 58 per cent of employees admitted they would rather receive a pay rise than be given an increase in their annual leave.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at the firm, said: "We all know that Brits work too hard and just don't get enough free time - what's surprising is just how much people are prepared to pay for as little as an extra hour a day."
In November 2005, a survey from Churchill reported that Britons are dissatisfied with the amount of annual leave they receive from their employer.
The questionnaire revealed that 46 per cent of Britons favoured an increase in holiday time to 30 days a year, while a third backed a rise to a minimum of 35 days.
