09 January 2008 Brits advised to brush up on hurricane know-how
UK consumers looking to bag a bargain holiday deal in January are being urged to research their selection before booking.
According to esure, holidaymakers risk ruining their break by not fully planning for all eventualities when selecting their destination.
Research by the company reveals that 79 per cent of holidaymakers are unaware of when hurricane season in popular US destinations is while another 87 per cent were unclear as to what months the Asian monsoon season falls in.
"Most people love to jump on the bandwagon of the January sales season. A holiday deal may look great from the outset, but come holiday time - you could be caught out by flying out to your destination, such as Mexico, during the hurricane season," commented head of travel insurance at esure Jacky Brown.
She added that in poor weather, delays and flight cancellations are unavoidable.
According to the National Hurricane Centre in the US, the 2007 hurricane season produced fourteen named storms, six of which developed into hurricanes.
