21 September 2005 Brits claim millions for travel troubles
UK travellers were subjected to £361 million worth of holiday problems this summer, according to a new study.
Research carried out by Churchill reveals that between June and August this year, some 750,000 were affected by flight delays, lost or stolen possessions, and injury.
Of those who were victims of stolen belongings while away, a third claimed for an average of £453 for their expensive items such as cameras and sunglasses.
Furthermore, more than 182,000 travellers required medical attention whilst away, with ear infections and upset stomachs the most likely ailment to spoil a holiday.
Churchill's head of travel insurance, Mike Ketteringham, said: "Unfortunately, accidents and loss of personal belongings are part and parcel of holidays.
"Whether they are for broken bones, faulty aircraft or lost passports, holiday claims are often costly and stressful."
