23 October 2007 Brits enjoy 'expensive' caravans
Adding awnings to caravans can increase their value by hundreds or thousands of pounds, it has been reported.
Graham Baynes, a spokesperson for The Caravan Club, added that a typical caravan is worth roughly between £8,000 and £15,000, with some caravans costing up to £20,000.
A caravan awning is a form of retractable-roof shelter which is fitted over the windows and doors and is used to provide protection from the elements.
"An awning can sometimes cost several hundred pounds, sometimes up to a thousand pounds. In terms of adding things on they can add hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds onto the value," commented Mr Baynes.
The news comes after it was recently reported by Barclays that Britons spend more than £1 billion per year on caravanning holidays.
Noting that there are over three million campers in England and Wales, Barclays reported that caravanners on average are wealthier than the rest of the population with an average income per head of £32,725 compared to £25,400.
