12 December 2007 Brits head overseas to ring in the new year
UK holidaymakers are set to head to Europe in their droves this month to celebrate Christmas and the new year in style, it has been revealed.
Post Office reveals that around 2.4 million Britons will vacate the country this festive season thanks to cheaper flights and "depressing" UK weather.
Many of these holidaymakers are set to go to Spain and France - 17 per cent and six per cent respectively - while five per cent will go to Spain and one in ten will head for the US.
Director of lending at Post Office Gary Fitton commented: "For many people, going abroad for Christmas is a great way to relax and not have to worry about cooking Christmas dinner."
Meanwhile, TripAdvisor recently reported that the Caribbean is the number one dream destination for holidaymakers looking to escape their routine Christmas celebrations this year.
