02 January 2008 Brits look for sun and snow on winter hols
Guaranteed snow or a certainty of sunshine are prerequisites for those booking holidays over the December period, it has been reported.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), those travelling abroad over Christmas are doing so in an attempt to escape dreary UK weather and experience one of these alternate extremes.
German and eastern European Christmas markets are also popular among those travelling at this time of year, a spokesperson for Abta claims.
"I'm not saying nobody does but people going away at Christmas aren't really aiming for cities, they are looking for winter sun or they want to go somewhere they can guarantee snow at Christmas," spokesperson Sean Tipton observed.
He added that city breaks are more popular for those looking to celebrate new year overseas.
Abta recently noted that January is a good time of year in which to book a bargain holiday.
