28 February 2008 Brits 'losing interest' in lengthy holidays
British travellers are becoming less inclined to travel abroad for extended periods of time, according to one commentator.
Holiday Inn claims that 52 per cent of families cannot afford to go on a two-week summer holiday this year.
Moerover, 72 per cent of Britons claim that shorter breaks are a "more affordable" way of enjoying family holidays.
"Gone are the ... days when people would save all year for their annual two-week summer holiday at the busiest and most expensive period - we're much too savvy nowadays," Chris Hale, spokesman for Holiday Inn, said.
He added that there has been a surge of people booking on to short breaks.
The study by Holiday Inn revealed that 24 per cent of respondents could not afford to travel abroad during school holidays as breaks are more expensive then.
On average, families now take around four short breaks a year.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents, short breaks to cities such as New York are growing in popularity.
