18 January 2008 Brits 'spend a bomb overseas'
UK consumers travelling overseas spend an annual £34.4 billion per year over the course of a lifetime, it has been reported.
According to Alliance & Leicester, £23.3 billion of this sum is spent by travellers on the holiday itself.
The study showed that Australia was the country where Britons spend the most money per visit, with a family of four shelling out an average £8,120.
"Holidays are meant to be a time of enjoyment but often the cost of going abroad, especially for a family, can be quite substantial," commented Richard Al-Dabbagh, Alliance & Leicester personal loans manager.
The countries which saw the most money spent per day included Iceland, Estonia, the United Arab Emirates, Latvia, Finland, Hungary, Belgium, Barbados, the USA and Canada.
