24 September 2007 Bulgaria reports tourism increase
An increase in tourist visitors has been reported in Bulgaria this year.
According to the Sofia Echo, 268,000 tourists and 52,150 vehicles visited Rila Monastery in Bulgaria's Rila Mountains between January and June 2007.
The Sofia Echo reports that during the second quarter of 2007 in particular there was a "substantial" increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting this region of Bulgaria.
Furthermore, German tourist numbers were also reported to have increased during the summer of 2007, with the total number of German tourists for 2007 expected to reach the 350,000 to 400,000.
Tour operator TUI also reported that the German tourist market is growing "steadily" in the Black Sea area, while the British market showed negative trends.
According to Bulgaria's tourism website, the country has a "unique" geographical position in the remote south-east corner of Europe, allowing for a diversity in tourist activities - which include skiing, seaside holidays and cultural excursions.
