02 January 2008 Cambodia meets tourism target
Cambodia is celebrating reaching its target level for tourism in 2007, it has been reported.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the country welcomed more than two million tourists in 2007.
Tourist minister Thong Khon reportedly attributed the growth in tourism to better security, an improved tourism infrastructure and a stable political situation as well as economic growth of more than eight per cent.
Nationalities visiting the region included those from the Republic of Korea, northern Europe, China, Japan and the US.
The news provider reports that popular tourist sites include the Chang Ek killing field in the capital of Phnom Penh and Tuol Sleng prison as well as the country's many temples.
Cambodia is a country in south-east Asia and it borders Thailand to the west, Laos to the northeast and Vietnam to the east.
