23 November 2007 Cape Town awaits 3m tourists
A total of three million tourists are expected to visit Cape Town, South Africa, between October and March next year, it has been reported.
According to its regional tourism authority, these visitors to Cape Town and the Western Cape are expected to be made up of both local and international tourists.
Acting chief executive of Cape Town Routes Unlimited Calvin Gilfellan also revealed yesterday that the number of visitors to Cape Town last year was less than this figure.
"Business tourists play a crucial role in driving tourism, so in January we'll co-host a Back2Business event with the Cape Town International Convention Centre as a celebration of the start of the conference year. This will help to refocus all role players in the meetings, events, conferences and incentives sector," commented Mr Gilfellan, according to Business Report.
Meanwhile, a study by AC Nielsen revealed Cape Town to be the number one destination for domestic tourists with 28.5 per cent of South Africans listing it as their favourite holiday region.
