18 July 2006 Cards 'still safer than cash for trips abroad'
People who are waiting for their holiday to commence have been advised that carrying credit cards is still safer than cash.
The warning follows research carried out by Barclaycard that reveals the overseas hotspots include Turkey, France, Spain and the United States.
Commenting on the research, Martin Warwick advised that Barclaycard's ability to monitor foreign transactions means that they get the same level of protection as they would if they were using their card at home.
Mr Warwick also reminds cardholders that "taking their card abroad is still safer than carrying cash, as cardholders are not held liable for any losses from fraudulent activity".
Barclaycard has also offered a range of advice to allow travellers to protect themselves against fraudsters.
This advice includes using trusted websites when booking your holiday, not losing sight of your card when paying for goods and services and to store both your cards and cash in a safe place when travellers arrive at their holiday destination.
