18 October 2006 Caribbean Airlines launched
Holidaymakers wanting some sun and sand on their travels may be interested in the launch of a new airline serving the Caribbean.
Caribbean Airlines will fly travellers to and from the Caribbean, replacing BWIA West Indies Airways, with tickets and frequent flier miles purchased from that company being valid for flights on the new airline.
Peter Davies, chief executive officer of BWIA, said: "Caribbean Airlines style of service will be professional but not distant, personable not pushy, genuine not contrived, very natural and easy.
"Today is the start of a very exciting phase in aviation in the Caribbean."
Adventure tourism is recommended by the UK chapter of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, citing activities on foot, boat and horseback for visitors.
The organisation suggests upriver kayaking and expeditions in dugout canoes as well as camping, fishing and mountaineering.
