20 September 2007 Caribbean weddings 'popular'
So-called "destination weddings" are on the rise, with brides and grooms to be increasingly heading overseas to pledge their commitment to one another, it has been claimed.
The Toronto Star reports that according to a StatCan survey couples planning to marry are looking to "take the show on the road".
Furthermore, the publication notes that the most popular location for these nuptials to take place is the Caribbean.
"The lure of a free wedding is enough to sway a lot of couples - many Caribbean resorts offer a decent lead-in package including ceremony, champagne and wedding cake free," the newspaper commented.
The Trinidad & Tobago Express recently reported that Caribbean Airlines intends to market Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana as a dual destination in order to encourage tourism between the countries.
