25 July 2007 Celebrity trips 'boost destination searches'
British holidaymakers are looking to the stars for inspiration when picking their holiday destinations, it has been reported, with online searches for Los Angeles and the Maldives showing large increases.
Travel and entertainment portal lastminute.com reports that the Maldives, being a top holiday destination for many celebrities, has seen a boost in prospective travellers looking up the country, while the attention from the Beckhams' recent move to LA has played a role in inspiring trips to the City of Angels.
John Bevan, managing director of the firm, said: "With the all the interest surrounding celebrities we have definitely seen an increase in searches particularly for destinations frequented by the rich and famous."
Former England captain David Beckham and his popstar wife Victoria recently moved to Los Angeles following his transfer from Spanish champions Real Madrid to Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy this summer.
Lastminute.com picked up the gong for Best Travel Site at the Web User Reader Awards in 2002.
