31 January 2006 Check-in changes for Ryanair
Ryanair has announced a number of new changes that will affect all travellers flying with the low cost airline.
Under the revised system, due to come into effect from the middle of March, passengers will have to pay to check-in their luggage, in exchange for a nine per cent reduction in all fares, reports Travelbite.co.uk.
Officials for Ryanair confirmed that it will charge £2.50 per bag per flight for passengers who book the luggage in advance, while those who turn up on the day will be charged £5 per bag per flight.
Those who travel just with hand luggage are set to benefit from new rules which allow them to check-in via the internet and provide them with priority status at the boarding gate.
The changes are designed to limit the stress of check-in and reduce queue times, as well as lowering overall costs for around a quarter of its passengers who only take hand luggage on board.
"We have no doubt that this pioneering development for checked in bags is the way forward," commented Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary.
Regulations regarding luggage allowances on Ryanair flights have also been revised, increasing from 25 kgs to 30 kgs.
