09 September 2006 Chic trips to Thailand being promoted
Thailand is being promoted by its local tourism board as a fashionable and friendly destination for those heading abroad with a sense of style.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand notes the contrast in the country of five-star properties in the north and the lively bars and restaurants in Bangkok.
Khun Tanes Petsuwan, director of Tourism Authority of Thailand London, has stressed that Thailand will not price itself out of the market in its appeal to style.
"'Chic and boutique' is not necessarily synonymous with 'expensive'," he said.
"Thailand has an abundance of hotels, guest houses, bars and restaurants which are both inexpensive yet effortlessly fashionable," he added.
Last month the Tourism Authority released visitor figures for 2005, with travellers from the UK and Ireland rising 7.73 per cent over the previous year to 730,984.
With the attractions in Thailand including scuba diving off its long coastline the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises travellers considering water sports to ensure that they are properly covered for such activities.
